Storytelling in Linocut: Inspired by Jonny Hannah

Take inspiration from the playful world of Jonny Hannah to create your own expressive linocut print. Looking at the exhibition as a starting point, we'll explore how simple shapes, pattern and bold line can be used to tell a story, celebrate everyday objects or capture a favourite place.

This relaxed introduction to linocut is suitable for complete beginners. You'll learn how to transfer a design, carve safely, ink your block and hand-print your finished image using traditional Japanese barens. By the end of the evening you'll leave with your own small edition of hand-printed linocuts and the confidence to continue printmaking at home.

Fee includes all materials (Hosho printmaking paper, a 10x15cm block, oil based inks) - please bring an apron or wear something you don't mind getting inky.

Lisa Takahashi is a Somerset-based artist, who makes linocut prints, oil paintings and watercolours. Her work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary Watercolour Competition, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
